Welcome
What is the National Dental PBRN?
The National Dental PBRN is a community of participating dental professionals and organizations committed to advancing knowledge of dental practices and discovering ways to improve them. We investigate research questions and share experiences and expertise with one another to embrace practical science for the benefit of everyone, from dental professionals to patients.
The basics of oral health are no longer enough for the evolving world we live in. Though poor oral health share common causes with several diseases such as cardiovascular disease and pneumonia, we want to shed light on the routine issues associated with practicing Dentistry. From understanding pain after dental procedures and evaluating factors for successful crowns, the National Dental PBRN is implementing studies that will help lead the field of dental practice-based research and dental collegiality.
Why it matters
Studies and research in the dental field have often been referred to as “scientifically valid, but clinically useless”. Our goal at the National Dental PBRN is to change that narrative while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of dental care as a whole.
We offer the dental industry a way to expand its knowledge-base while educating professionals and patients; the more knowledgeable you are about a topic, the quicker you will advance in your field. At the National Dental PBRN, our research helps fuel a sense of curiosity and critical thinking in students and practitioners, promoting a habit of lifelong learning. Here you can grow your network, expand your experience, and educate those within your practice.

Welcome
The National Dental Practice-Based Research Network is a consortium of participating practices and dental organizations committed to advancing knowledge of dental practice and ways to improve it. Essentially, it is “practical science” done about it, in, and for the benefit of “real world” everyday clinical practice. The major source of funding for the nation’s network is the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). For more information, please view this video from Dr. Rena D’Souza, Director of NIDCR.
