Clinical Study Champion: Meet Dr. Radha Sachdeva Munk

At the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN), our goal is to help dental professionals improve the efficiency and effectiveness of dental care directly. Through our free membership opportunities, dentists, hygienists, students, and other professionals can participate in various studies to further enhance their practice capabilities and patient care.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Radha Sachdeva Munk, a highly respected dental professional in Suffolk County. As someone who loves a challenge, she’s been determined to eliminate oral pain and maxillofacial issues through comprehensive care and research. Get to know Dr. Munk and explore her experience as a National Dental PBRN member.

Dr. Munk graduated from the University of Buffalo with a B.A. in Psychology and later earned her degree in Dental Medicine with a minor in Oral Pathology from the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She currently holds several prominent positions, including the immediate past president of the Suffolk County Dental Society, chair of governmental affairs for Suffolk and New York State, and is a general practice dentist. Alongside her professional roles, Dr. Munk is a mother to five children and five animals, showcasing her remarkable ability to balance multiple responsibilities.

Reflecting on her decision to join the National Dental PBRN, Dr. Munk shared that she has enjoyed engaging in research that directly involves her patient population. Prior to joining, she had participated in minor research projects during her college and dental school years and was part of a research group that eventually evolved into the National Dental PBRN. The network has significantly enhanced her skills, providing educational opportunities that keep her updated with the latest advancements in dentistry.

Dr. Munk encourages future researchers to join the network, emphasizing the invaluable experience, satisfaction, and knowledge gained from participation. She acknowledges that without this membership, opportunities for conducting meaningful research would be limited. The National Dental PBRN facilitates collaboration and knowledge-sharing among its members through newsletters, emails, and meetings, fostering a supportive community for dental professionals.

As an advocate deeply involved in dental societies and governmental affairs, Dr. Munk underscores the importance of research in shaping dental policy and influencing decision-making. She believes that research provides the credibility and factual backing needed to support legislative efforts and shape public perception. Patient involvement in research is particularly significant, as it ensures the continuity and validity of findings, making the research more engaging and relevant.

The National Dental PBRN offers numerous opportunities for professional development and networking within the dental community. Through meetings, seminars, and events, members can enhance their skills and connect with other professionals, furthering their growth and contributing to the collective advancement of dental care.

Dr. Munk’s journey exemplifies the profound impact of the National Dental PBRN on individual practitioners and the broader dental community. Her commitment to research, advocacy, and patient care continues to inspire and drive advancements in the field.
